Camel Trekking Excursion, Night in the Desert

A camel trek in the Sahara Desert will offer you an insight intothe lifestyle of the camel caravans that used to travel on centuries-old routes seeking cool oases, springs of water and dealing in salt and spices.

The salt caravans travelled from near Marrakech all the way to Timbuktu and came back with gold, silver, cloth, spices and slaves.  The journey was often perilous and many did not return. Some of the older nomads can tell stories from their own lifetime of the treks across the dunes to distant lands and back.

There is no doubt that the highlight of the desert is the camel;also known as the ship of the desert. Camels are able to go without water ten times longer than any other animal, and can therefore cross the endless desert for many days without drinking. They are also beasts of burden and can carry your water as well as all the necessary equipment and materials required. Perhaps being in the heart of the dunes under a nomadic tent is the best way to appreciate the tranquility of the desert and take a moment to enjoy the lifestyle of the nomads of this region.
